Dynamic snowboarding is extremely useful for snowboarders. Some people believe it is just something fun to learn, however, dynamic snowboarding actually helps riders acquire more control over their boards and movements. It also allows you to take on more difficult types of terrain that call for a more aggressive riding style. Anything from ice and crud to moguls and powder can become a much easier obstacle to deal with if you know how to use dynamic snowboarding. heli skiing bc

Dynamic snowboarding is all about discovering your own natural rhythm of movement. Your rhythm should come from your own personal riding style. The best way to develop this is by finding your own personal rhythm and using your own body’s movement to adapt to obstacles. Before you try to improve your dynamic riding style, you should be very comfortable with making simple turns on green and blue terrain.

Dynamic snowboarding means your body takes a different path than your snowboard— so your legs flex up and down and your snowboard seems to spring underneath you. Unlike basic turns, where your body stays relatively quiet, you’ll be bouncy and lively in dynamic riding.

There are all sorts of boring, technical drills you can do to practice dynamic. They emphasize timing and form and even the best riders have to concentrate really hard to do them right. One of the most commonly accepted, favorite methods for doing this is below:

    • Step #1—Find your snowboard rhythm. Head to a flat area and practice bouncing up and down. Keep your back upright while bending and straightening your legs (no bending at the waist…that’s just silly looking). To get even lower, imagine your ankles are lazy and just let your boots support your weight.
    • Step #2—Snowboard music. Once you feel springier, you should be ready to move on to the next step. You will need to locate a steep and narrow hill that you can practice on. Once you find a suitable hill to practice on, you can start trying to master the technique. First, you need to have some sort of mp3 player or music device that you can listen to while you ride. This should greatly help you to establish and feel a good, rhythmic beat that you can hum along to and attempt to move with in unison. If you do not have a device for this, then you can always try to think of a good dancing song that you know and move in accordance to that song’s beat, however, this is all much easier if you have a music playing device.
    • Step #3—Bounce while snowboarding. Bounce up and down at the top and begin heading downhill. Go straight for as long as you comfortably can without getting too much speed, bouncing all the while. As you begin making turns, the up/down rhythm should carry over into your riding and the steep, narrow run will help you naturally be more dynamic. This technique should come in handy once you master it. heli skiing bc canada
