This board is definitely a good choice for aspiring snowboarders who want to start off their snowboarding life on the right foot. It is a great all mountain, do it all kind of board and is definitely one of Rome’s best designs for starters. It has a much more mild feeling flex than other boards of its category which makes it a lot more forgiving and useable for beginners in the sport. The soft flex is also pretty great for most freestyle riders as well. It is definitely fun for doing butters and other tricks that can be done on flat land. It is absolutely awesome for when you are in a terrain park. It seems to get the job done just as well in virtually any terrain though as well as just the park areas.

This board was actually designed by one of the people who originally designed the burton custom. Most average riders really would not be able to tell the difference between this board and the custom. Since its stiffness is really low, it being too stiff is never a problem. This board should also be able to last you quite a bit; giving you plenty of time to improve your skills. The way it feels is a lot like the custom, however, it does not cost quite as much, therefore, it is an excellent choice.
The Ride Compact Snowboard is an all-mountain twin that is a great ride on groomers, in the park and around the mountain. It’s got a softer flex, which makes it good for beginners but also forgiving in the park. It’s fun for general carving and holds a pretty steady edge, though it did wash out at really high speeds. The light design makes it playful–messing around with flat-land-tricks like butters and manuals are no problem. Basic beginner turns and riding switch were easy. It is a great option if you are looking for a nice snowboard to handle the whole mountain. It’s forgiving and soft so a new rider can easily handle it, yet it has enough substance for an intermediate or advanced snowboarder. Beginners won’t need to upgrade to a more advanced snowboard when they progress their riding, making it an all-around good value.
The K2 Lunatique is a fun park twin snowboard that is great for beginners. Newbies will have an easy time learning on this snowboard because it’s soft and forgiving. Yet the snowboard still carves and rides the mountain well, so an advanced rider won’t get bored. Freestyle riders will love it! It feels light under your feet and smooth off jumps and rails. It’s springy, balanced and rides both regular and switch with ease. This snowboard is a terrific value — a great learning snowboard that beginners won’t outgrow once they become confident. If you are a newer rider or hope to ride freestyle, carve and ‘play’ around the mountain, the K2 Lunatique is a great choice.
The Ride Machete is a stiffer all-mountain snowboard with rocker, kind of like the Burton Joystick. The stiffness makes it stable around the mountain, through crud and at higher speed while the rocker gives it enough forgiveness that a beginner can manage it as well. If you are a beginner, you will be able to learn on the Ride Machete but still have fun once you progress.
If you are looking to primarily focus of park, you’d be better off with a softer twin (Burton Hero). But if you are into free-riding, jumps and carving, the Ride Machete is a good snowboard.
