There are many different ski film festivals and competitions that take place all over the world this time of year, as we approach winter's embrace. Before The Meeting and IF3 became big names among the ski film festivals, there was Freshtival. The annual celebration of freeskiing has been taking place in Calgary, Alberta for so long that Freshtival is the longest running freeski film festival in North America. This year's edition took place last weekend in unseasonably hot weather. That didn't stop pros and special guests like Mike Henitiuk, Dana Flahr, Eric Hjorleifson, Chris Rubens, James Heim, and Mike Douglas from showing up, although they did exchange their heavy outerwear for t-shirts. Complete with autograph sessions and, of course, the movies themselves, this year's event was another big success, achieving its goal of getting everyone pumped for the upcoming season.
Several of those same pros and films have visited our tenure here at Mica Heli. Mike Douglas, considered to be “the Godfather of Freeskiing,” had this to say after he visited us: “The best heli skiing trip of my life – you gotta come see this place, it will blow your mind.” That is quite a glowing recommendation from someone that has basically seen and done it all. On further thought, however, it isn't that surprising that he said that. At over 177,000 acres, our tenure is huge, featuring some of the most spectacular chutes, ridges and cliff drops you've ever seen. We also have big wide open powder bowls, crazy pillow lines, and so much tree skiing you'll never be able to do it all. On our
heli ski tours, we do try to hit as much of it as possible. That is why stats like only 1.5 down days and only two minute flight time to most runs are very important. We work hard to make sure you get the vacation you're looking for, and given our success in giving that to our guests, it is no surprise how fast our tours fill up every season. If you want the best in
heliskiing, book soon.
