The Canadian Avalanche Centre, which is based right here in Revelstoke, British Columbia, has just received some more funding from the provincial government. The B.C. government already contributes $150,000 annually to the Centre, but due to rising costs and increased demand for services, the government has seen fit to extend another $150,000 grant to the Centre to support its important work. The Avalanche Centre is an important resource for anyone and everyone that heads into the backcountry here in B.C. Not only do they have excellent forecasting and prediction services, they also do a lot of outreach and training work. Avalanches are unpredictable problems in the best of conditions, but given the proper respect and care, they can be avoided. Which is great, because the backcountry is a special place.
Simply put, there is something awe-inspiring about being surrounded by nature's vastness. Powder skiing and snowboarding in the backcountry open up all sorts of new features and terrain, and best of all, it never gets boring. The groomers at the resort are all well and good, but the unfortunate fact is that they just get boring after a while. Not so in the backcountry. Even if you hit the exact same line twice, it still won't seem like it because things will have inevitably changed.
The best way to access the backcountry, both in terms of ease and safety is with a helicopter.
Heliskiing is super fun, and super exciting. Best of all, you spend most of your time on the slopes rather than on the lift. If you have the foresight to book your next
heli ski or heli board vacation with us here at Mica Heli, you'll be on the slopes even faster thanks to the fact that our lodge is located right here on our tenure. That means most runs are just two minutes away. Make sure you book soon, however, because many of our tours have already sold out.
